The New Energy Crisis
We were the digital partner for the award-winning investigative series on Virginia's ongoing energy crisis.
The Fauquier Times & Prince Williams Times
The Brief
The Fauquier Times and the Prince William Times came to us with a challenge. They needed one place to centralize their coverage of Virginia’s energy crisis, driven by the rapid build-out of data centers across the state. The hub had to convey urgency to citizens, advocates, and policymakers alike, and it had to hold up next to national outlets covering the same story.
Our Solution
We built the New Energy Crisis, a microsite to house this important story. The brand for the site design broke from the traditional small newspaper look to express the gravity of this ongoing crisis. We shipped regular updates to the site as the story grew, adapting the design in real-time to enable a compelling multimedia experience.
The Outcome
Since launch, the site has attracted over 29,000 unique visitors and 45,000 page views. The project was named a finalist for the 2026 Goldsmith Prize for Exploratory Reporting by the Harvard Shorenstein Center, as well as an A-Mark Foundation Award for Investigative Journalism.
"They were there every step of the way through implementation — they came back with great ideas, and made our project a huge success."
